I knew it was time for me to write a positive review for something on Yelp or I'd get kicked out of America. Then I realized the perfect business to pimp - Santa Monica Motors! Of course!These guys are the best. They have the best work ethic, the friendliest service, the most layed-back attitudes. And now Josh is missing a front tooth from a rugby accident, they even have street cred! lolThey are prompt, accurate in their assessments and offer such a personalized service that we hate taking our car anywhere else. They have often run oil and tire air pressure checks for us on the fly and for free, as well as advice on maintaining the vehicle and how to prioritize work that is ESSENTIAL and work that CAN WAIT a little longer which is handy when you live on a budget. The shop is clean and well organised; the staff are well-groomed, intelligent and polite; the advice is excellent and trustworthy.There are never long waits for service, besides which, the Lazy Daisy cafe is right next door, there is a big park with basketball courts across the road and Santa Monica City internet is free in the whole area, to help while away any time before your car is ready for pick up.I get the very strong impression that they do not need my money or my patronage, therefore their service never comes across as greedy, desperate or pushy. They are courteous, have a good sense of humor and understand how important a car is in this city. They treat your car as if it was their own. You can't ask for better than that.Clearly I cannot recommend their services highly enough. We're very happy repeat customers and now we live a few blocks away, we'll be getting the car checked more often.

Ok so its official I am not a full fledge Californian. I now have my car registered in the beautiful state of California. Being new to CA I had no idea about any of their rules and laws for getting your vehicle registered and there is a thing called a smog test. So after paying my fee at the DMV I had to get a smog test. I jumped on Yelp and found Santa Monica Smog Check it is 7 tenths of a mile from the Santa Monica DMV and I met a guy named Bob there. He is very nice walked my threw the whole processes and made it painless. I even got a few bucks off for saying I was referred by yelp. If getting a smog test can be pleasant this was the most pleasant thing I have done in a long long time. Thank you Santa Monica Smog Check. Keep up the great work!!

I recommend SM Motors to friends all the time. Efficient, honest and friendly, I've never been promised something I haven't gotten and nobody pressures me to get work done that I don't need.

2011.01.19: Clean, quick and affordable. The staff was polite and efficient. I used a coupon I found on Google and the price was only $50. I was there about 9 AM and no waiting and was out in less than 20 minutes.

Phenomenal! Not only was the smog check itself fast, but they also send the information directly to the DMV. I got my smog check this afternoon and was able to register my car on-line this evening. No DMV. I went during lunch, so they said it would take a half hour. I'm not sure exactly how long it took because I went to an amazing Mexican place a couple blocks down on Pico: Gilbert's El Indio. If you've got a wait for your smog check it's worth the walk.

This is my second major repair to Subaru and SM Motors does a stellar job every time. They explain everything to you up front, clearly and provide an accurate estimate. My mechanic of choice on the West Side.

You get what you pay for right? That's the rule in (almost) everything around here. I think santa monica smog check and test only is more expensive than other smog check places. Definitely. It's worth it though. In the past I had 2 gas guzzlers that needed smog checks every year, and I always came here and they took care of it without problem. Now I have a greener car that I could take to any smog check but I still come here because I know what to expect and know it won't take long. As a side note the manager (or owner?) Bob is very, very unusual but he is also nice and helpful.
