My baby is finally 8 years old and needed a smog check for my registration renewal this year, so at the advice of a friend, I googled Smogtips.com for coupons. The closest and best rated near me was Santa Monica Motors and boy was I glad I went here!I called first and was helped by Don, a very friendly guy who manages to smile through the phone. For those who found them online, the contact information can be a bit confusing. This is what I found out: there are two buildings for the same business. The 2318 side is for auto shop and the 2328 side is for smog checks [the direct line for smog checks is (310) 450-0212]. Don was able to schedule me in for both.Smog checks are $45 ($35 promotional deal on Smogtips.com plus the CA processing fees). Since I was leaving my car with them anyway, I tacked on my obligatory oil change (about $50 for conventional oil including labor). The pricing is comparable for the LA area, and I felt comfortable leaving my baby at the clean facility in the hands of the very capable staff.Santa Monica Motors conveniently offers a free shuttle service, although that really meant a funny dude in his minivan. That's OK - they got me back to my office safe and sound and I was able to get on with my day while they serviced my car. They called me when the work was finished (only an hour or two after I had dropped my car off!) and held it for me until I was ready to come by.I really appreciated that Don didn't try to upsell anything and even took the time to comment and give his honest recommendations on each of the items the service technician had said I would need to do. Very cool. I'll definitely be bringing my baby here from now on! See you in 3,000-5,000 miles!
